#35 with Matt Wagner

This week I am incredibly honored to present…Matt Wagner.  Prolific writer and artist whose creator owned characters, Grendel and Mage, changed the world of independent comics forever.   Matt went on to work with The Demon Trinity (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman), The Shadow, Green HornetDjango vs. Zorro and much more. I can’t even tell you how awesome it was to talk to Matt.  He was such a cool guy, creative, knowledgeable and super passionate about his work.  You’ll hear some amazing stories in this episode.  Stories about his early breaks, chilling with Quentin Tarantino, and you’ll even learn Matt’s favorite Big Lebowski quote.  Matt Wagner is the complete package.  His brain contains an entire galaxy of stories with only a fraction already on the page.  If you are new to the world of Matt please, listen to this episode and then go read Mage or Grendel, NOW!

#34 in Conversation with Justin Wallner

This week on Cosmic Lion Radio, Justin Wallner joins us in the studio.  Justin works at Emerald City Comics here in lovely Clearwater Florida.  Emerald City Comics is the leading store in the area and, as far as I’m concerned, one of the best shops ever! It’s great to be face to face and vibe out on these great topics.  We chat about our comic roots, Justin’s published work, comic movies, and some great holiday comic gift ideas.  Also we listened to some great vinyl records while we were hanging out and I ripped them right into the podcast.  So all the music you hear is direct from the original vinyl.

Enjoy and if you’re in the area check out Emerald City and say hi to Justin!

#33 with Frank Lisciandro

This week we sit down with Frank Lisciandro.  Author of the book “Jim Morrison: Friends Gathered Together,”  and an old friend of Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek’s.  Frank, Jim and Ray first met at film school where he and Ray became fast friends. Frank went on to do much more for The Doors including tour photography and editing the films “A Feast of Friends,” which was just re-released, and “HWY” Jim Morrison’s unreleased directorial debut. Frank also helped film the Doors Live at the Hollywood Bowl!  He co-edited two of Jim’s poetry books, "Wilderness” and "The American Night," and the Grammy nominated album “An American Prayer.”  Frank is also an acclaimed photographer and filmmaker and has continued to produce great work including, but not limited to, material dealing with his friend Jim. This interview was an incredible honor as Jim was certainly pivotal in my growth and turned me on to many amazing ideas, poetry, books, music and so much more! Hope you enjoy as much as I did!

#28 with Sophie Campbell

Welcome back to Cosmic Lion Radio!! This week we sit down with Comic Book artist and writer  Sophie Campbell.  She is the creator of The Abandoned, Mountain Girl, Shadoweyes, Wet Moon, Water Baby and recently has leant her art to IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was a pleasure to talk with Sophie about her life and what makes her write the “slice of life” pieces that she does.   We also were able to nerd out pretty hard on Turtles, which is something we have both been huge fans of since the beginning. This weeks album art I did as a tribute to Sophie's beautiful style that originally caught my eye in the first place. (Click here for full size art)

Hope you enjoy, see ya next week!

#26 The History of Stand-Up Comedy Part 1 with Tanichee Cain

This week we sit down with our "Comedy Historian" Tanichee Cain.  She walks us though Comedy’s humble beginnings in Vaudeville and takes us on a brief journey through The Borscht Belt and the Chitlin’ Circuit, through the revolutionary 60’s and 70’s and then shows us where Comedy is going today.  We talk about censorship and the comedian who was arrested for saying a word (actually two 4 letter words and a preposition).  In this journey through comedy we get to hear from some of the greatest comedians of all time, from Jack Benny to Steve Martin and all the way up to John Mulaney.  So sit back and enjoy the first part of our expose on the History of Comedy.  Tanichee will be returning for a regular Comedy episode on the 6’s.  Cosmic Lion Comedy on the 6’s.
